Ah! London At Christmas!
Sunday, December 6th through December 12th, 2015
We took off for a last minute visit to London. Booked the flights on Friday evening, booked the rooms Saturday evening and flew out Sunday afternoon. It was a direct flight to Heathrow, just over ten hours. We flew on Virgin Atlantic and other than some turbulence the trip was quite comfortable.
We arrived on Monday early afternoon, got to the apartment, rested for a while and then headed out for some sightseeing.
Since we have been here we have done a tremendous amount of walking, a lot of sightseeing and a whole lot of eating!
We rented an apartment through airbnb which is very comfortable and not too far from the underground and bus stops. We have walked several times along the Thames, alongside Big Ben, Tower Bridge and the Christmas markets that have been set up all along the embankment. visited the Tate Museum (Modern), Carnaby Street, Trafalgar Square to listen to Christmas carols, Oxford Street for shopping, Covent Gardens, the Burrough Market and the Box Park shops. Thursday we went to view the House of Commons and House of Lords debating, as they were not discussing anything that was contentious it was very calm, not like we have seen on t.v. Last night we went to see Jim Broadbent at the Noel Coward Theatre in “A Christmas Carol”. It was just amazing, if you have the chance to get to see it, don’t hesitate, it was one of the best plays I have ever seen!!
We still have so much to see yet, so the next four days will be very busy. The lights and decorations are so beautiful and it seems like the entire population of London is celebrating. I will try to share a few photos in a separate blog to give you an idea but nothing will truly portray the feeling of Christmas that you get when you are walking along the streets of London, early In the evening and all of the lights come on!
